ORIGIN and FORMAT: The “Sports Bursaries” project was created in collaboration with the Polisportiva Masi multidisciplinary sports centre, in action since 2010, located in the area between Casalecchio di Reno and Bologna.
The project is aimed at families with financial difficulties, with one or more children of between 3 and 18 years of age, identified in collaboration with local Social Services, the paediatric Neuropsychiatric Service at the Local Healthcare Agency, and representatives from local associations who work with disadvantaged youths.
All the families must do is pay for an annual membership card, and afterwards their children can access the courses for free, with the costs being met entirely by funding. The sporting activities included in the project are: swimming, athletics, martial arts, rhythmic gymnastics, basketball and climbing.
The project has been active for 6 years and there is an ever-increasing demand from families. Today, approximately 30 children and young people are supported by Polisportiva.
